Hafnersteig is a small little dead end road next to the underground stop "Schwedenplatz". Walking distance to St. Stephen's cathedral is app. 10 minutes, and you only need 5 stops ( 10 minutes ride ) with the underground U1 to the Vienna International Centre ( VIC ) / the United Nations ( UN ) and to the International Atomic Energy Agency ( IAEA ). The shopping area - within the city centre - you can also reach easily within 10 minutes walking.
From the airport by Public transport:
1) You can take the CAT to the City Air Terminal where the underground station Landstraße / Wien Mitte is located (Journey time: around 16 minutes). From there you can take the U4 underground line one stop to Schwedenplatz (towards Heiligenstadt ). Then take the exit Rotenturmstraße and go straight on along Hafnersteig (approximately 50 steps). Cost: EUR 9 per person for the CAT and EUR 1.50 for the underground ticket per person.
2) You can take the Vienna Airport Lines bus to Schwedenplatz/Morzinplatz. (Journey time: around 30 minutes). Cost: EUR 6 per person. Buses leave every 30 minutes.
3) You can take a cab. This will cost around EUR 30 and take about 25 minutes.
From the Südbahnhof (south railway station ):
Take tram number 18 towards Burggasse / Stadthalle for one stop, alighting at Südtiroler Platz. There you change for the U1 underground line (red) towards Leopoldau, alighting at Schwedenplatz. Take the exit for Rotenturmstraße and go left. Walk 20 steps along Hafnersteig from the underground entrance. Duration: approximately 20 minutes.
Arrival from the Westbahnhof ( west railway station ):
Take the U3 underground line (orange) 5 stops towards Simmering, alighting at Stephansplatz. There you change for the U1 underground line (red) towards Leopoldau until you come to Schwedenplatz. Exit for Rotenturmstraße and turn left. Walk along Hafnersteig for approximately 20 steps. Duration: approximately 20 minutes.
