Püspökhatvan is situated in the northeastern part of the Pest Komitat, southwest of the Cserhátalja Mountains, in the valley of the Galga River and is surrounded by the three mountains Csövári-rög, Nagy-Szór and Ecskend. In the hills close to the village several archeological findings from the Árpád-era were made.
Püspökhatvan is only 40 km from Budapest away, on the road that connects Balassagyarmat with Aszod, which is situated on the Interstate M3. It takes about an hour by train from the Budapest Eastern railway station ( Keleti-pályaudvar ).
