AUSTRIA CITIES AND TOURIST SITES :

INNSBRUCK
Between high mountains lies the Olympic
city of Innsbruck. It has a small but beautiful old center
(the "Altstadt"). The most important tourist sites are the
so-called "Goldenes Dach" (golden roof), a lodge with, of
course, a golden roof that was built by order of Emperor Maximillian.
The imposing (and, by the way, empty) tomb of this Emperor lies near the
famous Hofkirche (Court's Church). Nearby is the Museum of Tyrol Folklore Art, where a good impression can be had about the ancient
Tyrolean architecture, typical costumes and traditions.
The
province of Tyrol
is
undoubtedly the most popular among visitors to Austria. According to
these visitors Tyrol has the most beautiful valleys, the loveliest
villages and the typical Austrian "Gemütlichkeit" (coziness).
Highlights of a visit to Tirol are the capital Innsbruck, the rough
valleys of the Zillertal, Stubaital and the Oetztal with nice little
towns like Kitzbühl, Hall, Seefeld and Kufstein.
Kufstein is famous for its
narrow medieval alleys and streets and for its "heroes organ",
one of the few open-air organs in the world . And, of course, there are
numerous possibilities for hiking and wandering around in the mountains
of Tyrol. This province is also the most important ski and winter sports
area in Austria. Innsbruck has hosted the Olympic winter games
twice. Through the Felbertauerntunnel East Tyrol can be reached. Here,
the main city is Lienz. East Tyrol has a milder climate because of its
situation on the southern part of the alps, and is less tourist-oriented
than
its neighbor. Palm trees (!) add a southern touch to Lienz .
