Dundrum Castle (2 km) - On a hill overlooking Dundrum Bay, Dundrum Castle is one of the most spectacular castles in Co. Down. Its massive circular stone tower is surrounded by further stone walls and a rock-cut ditch. With views of the Mournes and some even say Dublin.
The Rock of Cashel (11 km) - The Rock rises above the town and used to be a royal centre. The priest's house still has a roof, but of the cathedral and chapel, nothing more than richly decorated walls are left. The round tower is one of the best conserved ones in Ireland.
Cahir Castle (15 km) - Overlooking the River Suir in the town centre, Cahir Castle is of 13th century construction and was quite formidable in its day. There are 4 major areas of this site, the Outer, Middle and Inner Wards and the Barbican at the outer entrance.
The Swiss Cottage (15 km) - Built by John Nash in 1810, the cottage is a splendid example of a rustic folly. Lord and Lady Cahir, the Butlers, enjoyed hosting picnics here dressed as Irish peasants. The Swiss Cottage contains several charmingly decorated rooms.
