Alte is a parish with an area of around 96 km and has 2350 inhabitants. Alte is situated in the Algarve countryside, north of the council of Loulé. It has typically Mediterranean settings which include lowland and highland areas. Services and commerce are to be found in the village of Alte , the capital of the parish. This highly interesting village is most typical due to its little white houses with their handcrafted chimneys, contrasting the colourful flowerbeds, enticing you to walk along the narrow cobbled streets and stairways.
The small water fountain, in praise of the Alte poet Cândido Guerreiro, is a place where the freshness of the greenery harmoniously invites you to few moments of leisure.
The stream running along the village leads to the waters of the Fonte Grande (big fountain), a path full of sluice, weirs and old water mills.
