Cumberland Hotel is housed in two of the most architecturally attractive Listed Victorian Buildings in the West End of Edinburgh. The Hotel has been recently renovated to retain its original Victorian features, with superb cornices and large rooms. Visitors to The Cumberland are immediately aware of the elegance of their surroundings, from the attractive dining room serving full Scottish breakfasts with continental and vegetarian alternatives, to the spacious and relaxing residents' lounge and the intimate cocktail bar, with its traditional stone façade, where guests can enjoy a quiet evening discussing the day's events. Minimum stay policy of 3 nights applicable for special events, golf, highland show, concerts, august weekends, new year (29 Dec-2 Jan), rugby internationals (variable dates), edinburgh festival (1-31 Aug) and bank holidays - Although your booking may have gone through online - the hotel will be in touch with you for the minimum of 3 nights stay for the special events etc. Premium Rates are applicable. Special Events such as the Highland Show and other events in June also attract a minimum of 3 nights stay. Debit/Delta/Switch/Maestro card payments are subject to a flat fee of £2. Credit card payments are subject to a minimum of £2 or 2% surcharge. We don't accept payments with American Express cards.

Travel information

By train: The nearest train stations are Edinburgh Haymarket (5 mins walk) and Waverly Station (15 mins walk). By bus: Located on the main bus route, buses stop just outside the hotel. The frequency is every 3 mins Monday-Saturday and every 15 mins on Sundays. By road: From the city centre: Take the A8 from the city centre towards the West End. The hotel is 300 yds beyond Haymarket station, on the right-hand side. From the West or North: Head for the A8 (city centre). The hotel is along the A8 (St Johns Road-Corstorphine Road) leading to West Coates. From the Airport: Head along the A8 towards the city centre for about 6 kilometres - the Cumberland Hotel is on the left. From M8, City Bypass or M9/M90: Head for the A8 to the North West of Edinburgh, then drive along the A8 into the city. The Cumberland is within 0.5 kilometres from the West End of the city.

Hotel policies

Cancellation Policy

If cancelled up to 30 days before date of arrival, 25 percent of all nights will be charged.  If cancelled later or in case of no-show, the total price of the reservation will be charged. 

Deposit Policy

25 percent of the total amount will be charged on the day of booking and is non-refundable. 

VAT and city/tourist taxes

VAT is included.  Service charge is included.  City/tourist tax is not applicable. 

Meal Plan

Breakfast is included in the room rate. 

Children and Extra Bed Policy

All children are welcome.  All children under 2 years stay free of charge when using existing bedding.  All children under 2 years stay free of charge for cots.  All older children or adults are charged GBP 35.00 per night and person for extra beds.  Maximum capacity of extra beds/babycots in a room is 1.
