Situated on the High Street in the charming market town of Stony Stratford, this historic 15th-century coaching inn offers comfortable en suite accommodation and tasty food. The Cock became famous in the great age of coach travel, with as many as 100 coaches a day coming into the town. The inn was the official stop for the Manchester Flier, with a 25-minute stop for dinner. Travellers staying at the hotel and at the adjacent Bull inn would compete with each other in telling outrageous tales of the road. It is from this that the famous phrase “a Cock and Bull Story” derives. A full refurbishment of the bar and dining area has recently completed and guests can enjoy the cosy sofas and warm fire in the Snug Bar. The 31 en suite rooms have TVs and tea/coffee making facilities, with hairdryers available in some rooms and irons and ironing boards available on request.

Hotel details

The hotel serves a range of freshly prepared bar meals and snacks throughout the day in the bar and comfortable snug bar. We also have a picturesque walled courtyard, which in full bloom, is full of delightful colours. We are close to Milton Keynes Centre, which houses a shopping centre, a variety of pubs and night clubs, a state-of-the-art theatre, an indoor snowdome, 10-pin bowling alley, ice-skating rink and a large cinema. Woburn Safari park is around 15 minutes away by car. Towcester is around 7 miles away, and this has quite a few pubs on the main High Street, which usually offer various forms of entertainment. Bicester and Buckingham are about 20 minutes away and both have various shops with different styles and tastes catered for. Bicester Village is located here as well. They offer brand named clothing, jewellery, accessories and footwear at discounted prices.

Traditional furnishings and polished wooden floors create a relaxed yet contemporary feel. An innovative menu is available all day, while the popular Market Bar serves a wide variety of freshly prepared bar meals, specials and snacks. A range of meals, sandwiches and jacket potatoes are available in the bar during lunchtimes and evenings. You can also choose one of the popular sharing platters, or something from the range of specials.

Area information The Cock Hotel is situated along the High Street in Stony Stratford. Central Milton Keynes is only a short drive away. CMK offers a range of shops from department stores to individual market stands. The snow dome, complete with 16 screen cinema and megabowl, are easily accessable from the hotel. Towcester race course is within 10 minutes from the hotel and is easily acessed from the A5. Milton Keynes Bowl is with in 10 minutes from the hotel and can be acessed from A5 Silverstone race circuit is also nearby to the hotel. The hotel is situated a short drive from either junction 14 or 15 of the M1. You can also travel along the A5 or from M40 Follow signs for Buckingham. Milton Keynes central train station is a short bus or taxi drive away. Milton Keynes Coachways is also a short drive from the hotel.
