Grand Hotel Karel V *****

In the historic town centre of Utrecht the prestigious Grand Hotel Karel V has opened its doors from September 1999. The realisation is the result of a striking renovation of the former headquarters of the Teutonic Order. This block of buildings, locally known as the "Duitse" house, dates from the fourteenth century. Emperor Charles V stayed here, together with his sister, Maria of Hungary, and attended the Chapter Meeting of the Order of the Golden Fleece in 1546. These names with historic importance are proudly remembered in this magnificent building.

Construction started in 1823 by orders of King William I. In a historically responsible manner, the hospital wards have been transformed into 39 executive rooms and 5 empire suites in the Napoleontic Wing. In the Garden Wing* we offer 31 standard rooms and 16 executive suites equipped with all modern conveniences.

All 91 rooms offer a direct telephone line, fax- and ADSL for connection to your laptop, trouser press, mini-bar, safe, coffee & tea facilities and controllable air conditioning.
